Ausland was selected through a best-value process by the Veterans Administration to build the 23,000 square foot clinic and rehabilitation center. It replaced a patient care facility originally constructed in 1942 as part of the original Camp White.

The project challenges included an occupied campus, logistical concerns, limited access and modification of an underground network of service tunnels.
