Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice secured an iconic and historic home nestled in the middle of Holmes Park, but the 1939 residence would need to double in size and be upgraded to serve the medical issues of patients all while maintaining its historic character and charm.
Ausland and ORW Architects combined their extensive technical skills to solve countless issues such as hallways needing to accommodate wheelchairs and creating an entirely new HVAC system. In order to have enough rooms, Ausland constructed an entire new wing of the historic home that seamlessly integrated into the original home.
After exploring dozens of design options, the team expanded and renovated the classic home into a world class end-of-life facility surrounded by beautiful park land. The final product has historic charm on the outside and is entirely equipped to serve its patients on the inside.
“Ausland Group came to Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice with passion for our mission to create a residential hospice and a sensitivity to the historic architecture. Ausland’s know-how to build an architecturally compatible addition to the historic home is unique.”
